Treatment of gingivitis and gum disease
Gum disease is one of most common causes of tooth loss. Consequences of tooth loss are very serious. Approximately 50 % of the general population have some form of gum disease. Ten percent have severe gum disease. For this reason, your dentist/hygienist may refer you to see a specialist. Early diagnosis and intervention is essential.
Regeneration of gum/bone tissue
Dr Algraffee has been regenerating gum tissue since 2002 and is passionate in regenerating gum tissue where this is possible. The ideal scenario is to stabilize gum disease and if possible, to regenerate gum and bone tissue (infrabony defect) where it has been lost. Dr Algraffee dedicates part of time teaching dentists how to regenerate gum/bone tissue.
Gum disease treatment around implants - Peri-implantitis
Forms of swollen gum tissue or gum disease around dental implants can occur. It is essential that this is diagnosed quickly and where appropriate gum disease around dental implants is addressed immediately. Early signs of gum problems around dental implants can be bleeding and taste/visibility of pus.
Correction of uneven gum line (crown lengthening)
If your gums rest too low or too high on your teeth a gum contouring procedure can usually be performed. Gum reshaping or tissue sculpting can be used to correct uneven gum lines.
Cosmetic gum graft to correct gum shrinkage
Gum shrinkage is a common condition. This can cause sensitivity, and appearance of longer teeth. Some case a notch can be felt near the gum line. Gum shrinkage should not be ignored and the cause of gum shrinkage needs to be determined. Cause of gum shrinkage includes aggressive tooth brushing, gum disease, insufficient oral hygiene, smoking, misaligned teeth or tooth movement. A gum graft procedure can usually be performed to reduce and correct the gum shrinkage.
Treatment of bad breath (halitosis)
There are many causes for bad breath. Some of the causes can be problems with teeth/gum, smoking, diet, and medical conditions such as acid reflux/tonsillitis. It is essential to exclude any gum disease associated conditions.
